Illinois rules for getting a public defender?
my daughter who works part time while trying to save the little money she makes for college, had an auto accident in which she was cited twice, we went to court and the judge asked if she was working? she said yes, he asked if she paid rent, she said she lives with her grandparents and dad, and that she helps out with bills, he then said to get a lawyer, when i asked the judge for the paper to see if she can qualify for a public defender he said no.
i then went to the public defenders ofice and asked who makes that decision, she said the judge, and for me to go back and ask the judge again but it would make him angry, so i did and the bailiff asked the judge for permission to reapproach the bench and he said denied, now i am a disabled veteran and currently unemployed, what can we do?
Youll have to get a lawyer. You dont qualify for a PD. It sounds like since she has a job and lives at home, she can afford to get one. Besides, PD really dont do a good job for thier clients so she is better off with a real attorney.
