Theft under 5,000 in BC. Please help me with legal ideas.?

hi, i am an international student in canada vancouver, bc.
Okay, I am not gonna lie, I commited a crime(first time offence) that shoplifting for a jacket worth $100 from a mall.
i was caught by security guard and police came over and finally signen two piece of papers telling me to do finger print at police station and attend a court about a month later.

I regret it so much and I am going to pay for what I did, surely and no more mistakes. But, I really do not want to be deported and get a criminal record other than that, I am willing to take anything, probation fine anything etc.. so I mean I admit my crime but want to have punishment sentenced as weak as possible. But I have no idea how to or what to do to do this. I wish I could have a lawyer but I can’t afford one so do I still have any hope? I am sorry canadians if you get offended by this, I feel guilty so much everyday since my crazy mistake. thank you.

It’s doubtful a first offence for shoplifting will constitute grounds for deportation but visit legal services http://www.lss.bc.ca/ to see if someone there can help. You might also consult the law students’ legal advice program at UBC Law Faculty. They’re a puffed-up mess of over-privileged humanity for the most part but you need some advice in a hurry!
