criminal law question?

hi,
my little brother has been charged with assault, and assault with a weapon( a basketball thrown) claimed by his ex-gf, these claims are false and she had a psychiatric past… now we hired a lawyer and we have paid htis guy 5000 dollars so far and he has done anything, he’s telling us that this covers the pre trial and that the crown will give him 2 years of probation if he pleads guilty, if we say not guilty we have to go to trial which will be additional money… is there a way we can deal with this somehow without having to spend more money, the lawyer thinks 5000 is change but it’s like 3 months of salary for something that my brother hasnt even done… he’s 17, in ontario so im trying to find out what our options are, we were thinking of just saying he’s guilty and get it over with 2 years but will the record go away and etc or can the charges be brought down… this kid is an honour roll student trying to go to unviersity… he changed schools just to avoid her

The answr is plain and simple either a) hire a legal aid lawyer for $75 per hour b) tell your bro to plead guilty and he will have probation and it will save a shit load of legal money, hope that helps. The record will stay on him for about 5 years then he can ask to have it pardoned. Here’s another thing because it’s assault with a weapon he has the right to asked to be tried by judge and jury, if I were him I would go that route, because all you have to do is convince 1 person of his innocence.
