About Chicago, the 2002 movie, with Zellwegger, Zeta-Jones, R. Gere?
I love that movie. Especially the scene when the girls dance in prison and say “They had it coming… and if you’ve been there, seen it, you would have done the same.” Also, I love the parody (I think) of girls becoming famous due to being in jail and being on trial (Roxie Hart). Trials are a performance, lawyers play a part. You may get fame if you shoot men and go to jail. Reporters would be all over you. Fame is lost due to other criminals. One gets to sympathize with the criminals. I also noticed the “hard to notice” husband of Roxie. Women gain the center stage, they are the stars. Except for the legendary lawyer, Billy. Unofrtunately, the innocent Hungarian will be hung…
What do YOU think? About the movie and about my view?
“Chicago” is one of my favorite movies/musicals. I think Catherine Zeta Jones, Renée Zellweger, and Queen Latifah were good choices for the roles. I especially like the scene where Renée Zellweger sings the song “Roxie Hart.”
Personally, I think your summary and view of the movie is very insightful and accurate. However, with the out of control behavior of celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Paula Abdul it’s becoming difficult to sympathize with girl criminals in real life, but that’s not a problem with Chicago since it’s just a movie. In closing, you are correct that controversy does seem to bring fame.
