I was clocked for doing 108 in a 70. I am afraid if I lose my license, I will lose my job. Any suggestions?
I was clocked going 108 mph in a 70 mph zone on I-71 in Kentucky. I was issued a citation for reckless driving, expired registration plates, and speeding 26 mph or greater than the posted speed. I am 17 and have a graduated license. I realize that I made very poor decisions and not only endangered myself, but everyone else on the highway that night. I also lost my dad’s trust because he let me borrow his SUV, trusting that I wouldn’t do anything stupid. I probably deserve to lose my license, but I have a great job that I really love at a car dealership and if I lose my license, they wont really have much use for me there. What should I do? I’ve had one accident, but I’ve never been charged with anything. Someone said that maybe I should ask for community service instead of losing my license. Should I get a lawyer or anything? I have about $800 that I have saved up for a car, but after this my parents wont let me get one anyway. Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.
You were driving an SUV at 108 MPH? Oh, my! Don’t think for one moment that you will keep your licence. You have to realize that you really don’t deserve one. I don’t know what type of job you would have at a car dealership at age 17 except perhaps washing cars, but if you ever had to drive off the lot you are probably on their list of authorized drivers. When their insurance company finds out about these charges (and they will), you won’t be allowed to drive anything off the lot even if you somehow kept your licence. Possibly not on the lot either. You might want to bite the bullet and have a private chat with the dealership manager and see if he’ll keep you on. To be honest if I were him I sure wouldn’t think you were responsible enough to work there. Whatever, if you are honest and tell him about it (as soon as your convictions are registered) it will make you look better and more responsible. No more lecture because you are kicking yourself enough now and will likely do so for a few years. Good luck anyway!!
