in nj, what is the average settlement for a person that caused retirement, caused by another driver?

ive been out of work 1 year and 3 mo due to a car accident. they say it’s worth 100,000, becaue of the low amount of insurance the other people have. lawyer wants to settle for pain and suffering. What about negligence? Isnt that worth a little more, becaue I was forced to retire do to his accdent.
