Driving uninsured vehicle in Maryland?
A few days ago I ended up in a minor accident, and I was driving a friend’s vehicle that was uninsured. I read through the list of penalties that the state can impose on you, but I’m not really sure if I should go look for a lawyer or anything or what exactly would apply to me. The vehicle isn’t mine and it’s registered in a different state. I don’t even own a vehicle myself.
Anyone have any advice for me?
The damages aren’t an issue at this point, it wasn’t more than a small dent in his bumper, but the other driver felt that he needed to call the police. Right now I’m just hoping for a little more information about what I should do before I appear in court for the driving uninsured citation. I know what the possible penalties are, but I’m just really unsure of whether there’s something more I should do before the court date.
If you don’t get a lawyer, you will be representing yourself, and as Abe Lincoln said “He who represents himself has a fool for a client.”
Anytime your facing a big fine or jail (I do not know the common punishments for an uninsured car) you need to have a lawyer representing you.
